For his icon, he wears a tiger's eye pendant in the shape of a claw.

Meeting Sasai
Except the man isn't a businessman and even though Ore is big for his age and just as strong, the man kicks his ass.
But instead of beating him worse or calling the cops, the man compliments Ore's strength and asks him why he jumped him. Frustrated, Ore breaks down and tells him: his sister Yasuko is really sick and he needs the money to pay for her treatments. When asked about his parents, Ore tells him that they're not around and that it's just the two of them.
Then the man makes an offer: work for him and he'll pay for Yasuko's treatments. When Ore calls bullshit, the man explains who he actually is: Hideki Sasai, patriarch of his own yakuza family. He repeats the offer and it's an honest one, not an ultimatum. Ore can take it or leave it.
It's not something he has to think about. He'll do anything for his sister.
Yasuko's Death
Separate Ways
They're having a positive, but solemn conversation: she's been given an opportunity to work her dream job, a chance she can't pass up because it may never come around again. But . . . she has to leave the port, because said job is very far away.
Ore can't leave, though. He was just hired on at the school, and the workshop he's been planning to open is already in it's first stages. He can't just pick up and leave it all behind.
They don't argue about it. It's a calm discussion that eventually, ends with them both agreeing that because of how young they are, she should take the job and follow her dreams, and Ore should focus on his own career. Then maybe one day, they can talk about their future.
It's a mutual break-up. Ore lets her take the drawings he'd done of the ring he was going to make.
The Ueno Seiwa Hit
Gosh who is this mysterious bro he keeps thinking about weird
Brothers Ceremony
It's almost exactly like the other ceremony. They're brought to a room where an altar has been set up with three scrolls, meant for the deities that would go with their families. There's offerings too, sake and salt and fish, and candles that stand for the 12 signs of the zodiac. Even for two bottom of the barrel yakuza brats it's still a rigid and formal ceremony.
The person running it all begins, explaining the oath they're about to take. Again, a lot like the other ceremony, only this time they're dedicating their lives to each other. It's promising loyalty until the day they die, and even if the ceremony is the same this one feels much, much more important.
They move to the altar, where they each take a sip of sake from special cups that they wrap and keep afterwards.
And then . . . they're officially kyodai. Sworn brothers for life.
One day, it might mean more to everyone else. But to them it means everything. They came into this world together and have had each other's backs since the day they met. It's about duty and loyalty, sure, but there's more to it.
Later, when they get back to Ore's little place, they try to explain what they did to Yasuko. But she's only ten, and the less she knows about the yakuza, the better. So instead of explaining the ins and outs of a sakazuki, they tell her that it's a lot like a marriage.
It isn't that far off the truth.
"Tell me the truth, bro."
Seeing your bro for the first time in 25 years
Making dinner with Yasuko
She still gives his back a bright smile and, after kicking off her shoes, heads into the tiny kitchen nearby, unpacking everything. Some fresh vegetables, noodles - things they would not have been able to afford until just recently.
"Taiga, you're still going to help me cook, right?"
Ore slowly glances over his shoulder. "Majima's comin'—"
The girl huffs, though there's some amusement in it. "So? You promised!"
"He'll be here any minute."
"Then he can help out too."
Yeah right, Ore thinks to himself, but with a heavy sigh he drags himself up and puts his cigarette out in the ashtray. He joins the girl in the kitchen, then grumbles when she scolds him to wash his hands - which he does, immediately, despite the grumbling.
From there, the girl handles most of the cooking, while Ore is delegated to chopping up the vegetables. A familiar thing, because he knows where everything is and how to do it without any further instruction, like they've done it hundreds of times.
But it's obvious the grumbling was for show, because as soon as they settle into the routine Ore starts asking her questions: How was your day? What'd you do at school? Did you take your medicine? None of those boys were being mean again, I can come and -
She giggles at the last one and gives him a little shove, "Taiga!", but answers the rest with a bright smile. Everything's fine, school has been going great, and she's never felt better. It makes Ore smile.
When Majima arrives, just letting himself in as he usually does, it's to the siblings laughing with each other. The last part of the vision is the girl brightly asking Majima if he wants to help, and Ore trying not to laugh.
Death Row
Eat breakfast. Bread and rice, but that's every meal. Sometimes there's flavor, but usually it's bland as hell. He's stopped noticing either way.
Occasionally, there's work they allow him to do. Little things he can put together and not use as a weapon to kill the guards or himself.
He would never do that, despite their encouragement.
Finish work, stare at the wall. Remember that he'll never know why his brother wasn't there that day, or what happened to him, or get answers to any of the thousands of questions he's had all these years.
Eat lunch. Same old shit. Remember that Yasuko's cooking when she was barely able to reach the sink was a thousand times better than this slop. He misses her so much, every day, but all he can do is hope and pray that she's doing all right. Believe that she is, because she's strong as hell.
Get brought to the yard for exercise. No guards want to beat the shit out of him today, so he can work out in peace. Maybe there's no point, but staying in shape is what's kept him alive. And he wouldn't give those fuckers the satisfaction of killing him before the noose finally gets him.
Sit in his cell, stare at the wall. Wonder if maybe today's finally going to be the day, because they don't tell you in advance. He's past the point of being sick of waiting.
Dinner. Again, same old shit. Majima could cook better than this and the idiot could burn fucking water.
Lights out. He stares at the ceiling and thinks, maybe tomorrow will be the day instead.
It won't be tomorrow either. But it will be the day that finally breaks this twenty-five year routine.
